Macao elite donates for Beijing Olympic sports facility

 
 
Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, on Tuesday made a personal donation worth 1 million Hong Kong dollars (128,000 US dollars) for the construction of Beijing's Olympic sports facilities.

Ma entrusted the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to transfer his donation to Beijing.

Bai Zhijian, director of the Liaison Office said the money willbe delivered to the Beijing Co-construction Committee of Olympic Sports Facilities by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots, which is responsible to manage a fund designated for pooling donations to build the State Swimming Center, one of Beijing's three major projects under construction for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Construction of the State Swimming Center estimated to cost 100million US dollars began in December last year. The money will allcome from donations made by compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to support Beijing's host of the 2008 Olympic Games.
