Beijing city government has decided to reconstruct sports venues to meet the demand of the Olympics in 2008.
The National Olympics Center will be doubled to an area of over 60-hectares after the enlargement works.
The comprehensive center, located in the north of the city, was finished and opened in 1990 to serve that year's Asian Games. A new drug testing center, athlete apartments and training gyms will be built in the expansion process.
In addition, the Beijing Workers'Stadium, which was erected in 1959, is also to undergo rebuilding to host the Beijing Olympics' soccer events. |
